Stonyhurst College

Stonyhurst College 是一所 private independent 的羅馬⁠⁠⁠⁠天主教的男女寄宿學校。它位於英格蘭北部Lancashire, 距離最近的曼徹斯特機場約一小時車程，交通便利。 學校建於 1593 年, 至今已經超過 420 年歷史！學校多年來培養了不少出類拔萃的學生，當中包括有秘魯總統 Eduardo López de Romaña, 玻利維亞總統 José Gutiérrez Guerra, 紐西蘭的總理 Sir Frederick Aloysius Weld……等等大人物。學校現提供寄宿和日校課程給720 位男女學生，年齡為13-18 歲的學生。另外，學校內的St Mary’s Hall亦提供預備班給3-13 歲的男女學童。

學校現開設了GCSE, A-level 和IB 課程給學生選讀。學校一直之來也獲得好成績，2016 年IB 平均分是36，2016 年GCSE的成績 Maths & English A* – A是49%, GCSE Maths & English A* – C是90%, 2016 年A-level 的成績為 A* – A 42%, A* – B 69%, A* – C 85%。很多學生也能夠入讀英國出名的大學，甚至獲得牛津，劍橋大學的學位。

學校除了有出類拔萃的成績外，亦提供多元化的課外活動給學生參與，有音樂，話劇，藝術與設計，運動多個範疇……包括有游泳，足球，柔道，水球，曲棍球，騎馬等多元化活動, 令學生們有多元化及開心的寄宿生活，亦令他們成為全能學生，所以學校深受家長們的歡迎，爭相報讀。

Mr John Browne, Headmaster of Stonyhurst, describes his educational philosophy as follows:

“We really need to get to know our pupils as well as possible, to know what ‘makes them tick’, to know their capabilities, and to challenge them to achieve their personal best academically and in many other areas of school life. Academic performance and exam results are really important but also, especially in a boarding school, how an individual grows and develops as a character spiritually and emotionally is just as important.

At Stonyhurst, it believe it can give the pupils that extra edge which will allow them to go further in life. Above all, the college do not just want to form young people who will take what they can. Rather, it want the OS (Stonyhurst alumni) who leave the college to be prepared to ask what they can give to others.”
